The Alternative Animal Sanctuary

I came across The Alternative Animal Sanctuary website last December when I was looking to sponsor a dog. For a one-off payment of £10, you can sponsor a variety of animals. As I said I was looking to sponsor a dog, and Charlie the Dalmation caught my eye.

Charlie had such a sad start to life. He spent his first three years starved and beaten and locked in a shed! It beggars belief doesn’t it, that a human being could treat an animal like that? Charlie is also deaf, and so he didn’t always know when his next beating was coming.

As a result, Charlie is nervous around strangers and therefore he is not suited for rehoming. He does have a home for life at the sanctuary though, where he lives with Tamara and lots of furry (and feathered) pals.

Tamara runs the sanctuary and the motto of The Alternative Animal Sanctuary is “taking in animals with nowhere else to go”. Tamara has created a homely environment. A registered charity, all the money raised goes towards the upkeep of the animals. None of the animals are put down other than for humanitarian reasons.

Something about the sanctuary touched me, and I wanted to do more to help. After doing some research I felt that the sanctuary could do with some help with its Twitter account, and so I contacted Tamara offering my services. I’m not a Twitter expert, but I hope the work I’m doing is helping to attract more support for the sanctuary.

There are many ways to support the sanctuary. You can make a good old-fashioned donation of course, then there is the Amazon wishlist where Tamara has listed much needed items. If you have an old mobile phone you are about to dispose of, Tamara could get some money for it, and she can also make use of your old stamps. You could sponsor an animal, like I sponsored Charlie, or you could even give a home to the cats and dogs who are suitable to be re-homed. Why not take a look and see? All the ways you can help can be found on the website. And in the meantime a retweet or two on Twitter would be much appreciated. Follow us @AltAnimalSanc
