My first audiobook

I'm trying to reach as many first-time puppy parents as possible with my book, All About Archie: Bringing Up A Puppy. I know that audiobooks are popular, and I had this vision of a busy new puppy parent, who doesn't have the time to sit down and read a book, but who would listen to an audiobook whilst driving for example.

ACX was recommended to me and I thought 'what have I got to lose?', especially if I opt for a royalty share. I registered on the site, put in details about my book, then uploaded the audition script. And then I waited, wondering if any of the narrators (or producers as ACX calls them) would be interested in my book. I didn't have to wait long - an audition was sent to me within 24 hours. I was so excited.

The first person to audition had an American accent, whilst I'd requested a British accent (purely because I'm British). More auditions came in, some British, some American, and one Australian. As time went on I became more open to the narrator not having a British accent, they just had to have the right voice.

I waited several weeks (I'd been advised to take my time, to be patient), and I'm so pleased I did because although there were some strong contenders, when Julia Eve came along I knew she was 'the one' straightaway. I loved her audition and from some email conversations I believed we would work well together. I had no hesitation in making her an offer, which she thankfully accepted.

Julia Eve is a voice actor and audiobook narrator and she has provided voices for explainer videos, animations, audio dramas, and commercials. If you'd like to find out more about Julia please go to her website.

I've sent Julia the full script and she's due to start recording any day now, whilst I am getting the original e-book cover adapted for ACX. I can't wait to hear Julia's recording, and I'll be sure to keep you updated along the way.
