Day trip!

I went to London for the day recently with my hubby. Archie went to the petsitter we've found - who he loves - and so we all had a day out!

It was very wet when we first arrived, so we headed to The National Portrait Gallery.  I was particularly interested in the portraits of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen. Whilst we were in the Trafalgar Square area we also popped into The National Gallery. As always, I looked at all the paintings and couldn't believe the amount of detail. I find it strange seeing something so iconic, which you've seen in books or on the television, up close and personal (one of Van Gogh's four paintings of sunflowers was in The National Gallery).

After a spot of lunch in Garfunkel's - a favourite haunt of ours - we walked towards the London Eye, across the Millennium Bridge. I never tire of the view of the wheel and the Houses of Parliament. After that we went to Covent Garden, browsed in a few shops, and then we made our way to Regent Street, and then to Liberty. I can never resist going in there. My favourite areas are the stationery department and the haberdashery. By that point we were tired (haven't got the stamina these days) - you don't realise the amount of the walking you do round London - and the weather was pretty miserable so we made our way home. Archie was pleased to see us and was thankfully just as tired as us and therefore happy to snooze.

I picked up a couple of free newspapers whilst I was in London, the Metro and the London Evening Standard. Newspapers are a really good source of ideas. Flicking through them on the train home I got some inspiration for new stories . . .

New website
