So the release of Skin Deep is no longer just a twinkle in my eye. Because it's a story about a young woman who has skin cancer, I sent it to the British Skin Foundation to check the medical parts are correct. Thankfully they are, and the charity has very kindly given me a quote to use in the book.
I also sent the manuscript to my proofreader, Alison Williams, and have received it back. I have just two things left to do (she says), which are:
1. To format the manuscript ready to upload it to Kindle Direct Publishing.
2. Design the cover. I've selected an image (see below) so I just need to speak nicely to my hubby in order for him to do the technical bits.
The cover will be a departure for me - I normally use a picture of a place. That doesn't feel right for Skin Deep, and as Gemma is a Florist (and peonies are her favourite flowers), this picture which I found on Pixabay seems perfect.
Excerpt from Skin Deep:
Skin Deep will be out this summer. More news to follow.
Waiting
at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital to see the dermatologist, I’m fast regretting that
I didn’t tell anyone about my appointment; it would be nice to have some
company. It doesn’t help that Mr. Davison is running late. I’m trying to stay
upbeat, but the longer I’m here the more nervous I get. Thoughts flit in and
out of my mind like floating dandelion seed-heads. What if the mole is cancerous? No, I mustn’t
go there. I can’t wait to have it removed. I feel like I’ve got this
potentially malicious entity on my body, eating away at me.
